In July 2009 Tybee Island Ocean Rescue Officers began remodeling our larger towers. We began at Tower 3 on Third St. and added a second story observation platform.  This will be vital during times when rip currents or dangerous swells are occuring.  This will also assist us observing swimmers when beach patrons have large tents and umbrellas set up.



We utilize 40 handheld radios operating on the 800 Mhz radio system and Marine Radio Channel 19A for all communication.  We also have six base radios monitored by The Chief of Operations, On-Duty Fire Department Personnel, Tybee Island Police Dispatch, and City Hall Personnel.
